In a sparesly-worded press release, Nuvont has decided that, like Veracity, it has no plans to stop providing service on UTOPIA. There isn’t a lot of meat to the story, though it does appear that Nuvont is quite happy selling satellite TV services instead of selling thier own video product over UTOPIA.

Selling satellite TV services sounds like a good financial move if they’re trying to preserve capital. From what I understand, when they sell internet and voip services there is an upfront cost, and when they sell satellite tv there is an upfront commission. So when they sell both together they likely cancel each other out, at least to some degree.
I don’t believe Nuvont ever sold iptv over Utopia, though they did over iProvo (I’m still a Nuvont iptv subscriber over iProvo).
Nuvont never did UTOPIA video. I’m guessing they made much more money selling satellite, plus Provo more-or-less forced them to be triple-play. Since they lack adequate video contracts of their own, I don’t know if Nuvont would be able to provide UTOPIA video anyway. It’s still good to hear that they don’t have plans to ride off into the sunset. The more providers, the better.
I had a Broadweave salesman come by my house and tell me that Nuvont was not going to renew its video contract with iProvo and so I should switch to Broadweave. From what I understand, Nuvont is trying to switch over their iptv customers to DirecTV.
That’s about half-correct. Nuvont is moving all of its video customers to DirecTV, but that’s likely because Broadweave isn’t going to sub-let their video license to Nuvont any longer. This was kind of a grey area when Provo did it and I imagine Broadweave isn’t looking to risk their video license for Nuvont’s sake.
